November 21, 2008. New York City's David Nolan Gallery has opened a new art space in a former cabinetry workshop at 527 West 29th Street designed by studioMDA in collaboration with artist Richard Artschwager. Detailed in bright yellow metallic trim, the new gallery's façade is a distinctive Artschwager flourish that makes reference to the artist's 40-year Conceptualist, Minimalist and Pop-infused career. (In 2002, Artschwager also designed the façade of the Galerie Georg Kargl in Vienna in blue trim.)

StudioMDA's reconstruction of the interior is crisply elegant with sophisticated details that take nothing away from the art on show. The space's inaugural exhibit, "Objects as Images of Objects," a retrospective of Artschwager drawings, sculptures and paintings from 1966 until today, will be up through December 6 and is worth viewing in conjunction with the design of the new interior and storefront.
