David Nolan Gallery is very pleased to announce that Jorinde Voigt has been nominated for Le Prix de dessin contemporain 2012. The winner will be announced on March 29, 2012 at the Salon du dessin at the Palais de la Bourse, Paris.
Each year, the prize is awarded to an artist who has recently gained recognition in the art market and by institutions, and for whom drawing constitutes a central role. Voigt is nominated alongside artists Marcel Dzama and Marc Bauer.
About Jorinde Voigt:
Jorinde Voigt (b. 1977, Germany) has developed an idiosyncratic visual language with her meticulous, large-format drawings that present a quasi abstract code of signs that seems deeply subjective and individual but nonetheless subject to strict rules. Eliminating the boundary between science and art, she analyses the structures of diverse cultural and natural phenomena in her notations and scores. Voigt recently exhibited seven drawings during 54th Venice Biennale at the Palazzo Papadopoli as one of the nominees of the Future Generation Art Prize, established by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation in Kiev, Ukraine. David Nolan Gallery will host her first New York solo exhibition opening in March 2012.

About the prize:
Le Prix de Dessin de la Fondation d'Art Contemporain Daniel & Florence Guerlain was created to promote the place of drawing in art and allow artists to pursue their creative work. The candidates are selected by a committee that includes the two founders, Daniel and Florence Guerlain, and four members chosen for their knowledge and interest in contemporary art. A panel of eight active contemporary collectors will interview each artist and review their portfolios before electing the winner, who will receive 15,000 euros. One work of the winner is offered by the Foundation to the Cabinet d'art graphique at the Musée national d'art moderne - Centre Pompidou. The runners up will receive 2,500 euros.
